If you need care related to the urinary tract or reproductive system, our team provides deep expertise and compassionate, comprehensive urology services.

At SBH Health System, we have decades of experience with both common and complex urologic conditions. And a deep knowledge of the community where we live and work, and where many of us were medically trained. That means we provide advanced care that’s tailored to you. In a community hospital setting that’s both comfortable and convenient.

Whether you have kidney stones, trouble emptying your bladder or are dealing with erectile dysfunction, we’re committed to helping you get the best care possible, as quickly as possible.

Our urologic services

Our urologic team is here to help you find answers. We’re experts at treating common prostate conditions, like prostate cancer and an enlarged prostate (called benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH). And at treating all conditions affecting the urinary tract, including urinary incontinence in both men and women.

For women with urinary incontinence, we offer a wide range of treatment options, including behavioral techniques, pelvic floor muscle exercises, medications, electrical stimulation, medical device inserts, interventional therapies and several surgical procedures.

Conditions we treat

We can diagnose and treat urinary tract health conditions including:

  • Cancer, including bladder, kidney and testicular
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Kidney stones
  • Male and female incontinence
  • Obstruction from prostate enlargement
  • Pelvic floor disorders
  • Prostate issues

We use tests like ultrasounds and biopsies to diagnose these conditions, as well as surgical procedures to treat them. These procedures include:

  • Artificial urinary sphincter (an implanted device to treat stress urinary incontinence)
  • Circumcision
  • Cystoscopy (a procedure to view the inside of your bladder and urethra)
  • Enlarged prostate management
  • Hernia repair
  • Sling (a surgical option to treat urinary incontinence)
  • Urethral repair
  • Varicocelectomy (a surgical procedure to treat enlarged veins in the scrotum)
  • Vasectomy

Endourology

Some cases of kidney stones, urinary stones and other conditions affecting the urinary tract may get better with lifestyle changes and medications. But our urology team includes subspecialists in endourology who are highly skilled in using minimally invasive procedures to treat these diseases. We’ll tailor your treatment to your individual diagnosis, needs and preferences.

We may recommend tunnel surgery to remove the stone. Or we may recommend nonsurgical treatments like extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), which uses sound waves, or laser energy, to break up complex kidney stones.

BPH program

When the prostate is enlarged, it can block the bladder. If you experience signs of BPH — like needing to pass urine often and a weak urine flow — and are diagnosed with the condition, we’ll likely first try medications to reduce your symptoms.

If medicines aren’t working for you, though, you may qualify for a minimally invasive treatment for BPH in an outpatient setting through our dedicated program. These treatments may include prostatic urethral lift (PUL), which uses implants to lift and compress the prostate so it no longer blocks the urethra, and prostate artery embolization (PAE), which uses radiation to block blood flow to the prostate and try to shrink the gland.

Urologic cancers

We use advanced diagnostic tools and treatments, including robotic surgery, to care for cancers like bladder, kidney, prostate, testicular and penile cancers. Bladder and kidney cancers can develop in both men and women, while prostate, testicular and penile cancers are specific to men.

If you’re diagnosed with a urologic cancer, we’ll plan your treatment based on several factors, like the specific diagnosis, how advanced the cancer is and your personal preferences. Common treatment options for urologic cancers include surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. We also may recommend immunotherapy, which uses the immune system to fight disease.

Erectile dysfunction and men’s sexual health

We’re here to help men experiencing erectile dysfunction and other issues related to sexual health. We’ll work to determine the cause and recommend the best treatment, which will be based on your age and overall health, the severity of the condition and your treatment goals. Medical therapies may include prescription medications. We also may recommend hormone replacement therapy or penile implants.

Although erectile dysfunction is the most common sexual health issue in men, we can also help with others, including premature ejaculation and an inability to reach orgasm.
