SBH Health System is the oldest continuing health facility in the state of New York. For almost 160 years, we have partnered with people who live in the Bronx to build a healthier community and increase access to both vital services and resources that enhance overall well-being.
We believe that healthcare should go beyond just treating illness and disease. Instead, we create resources and programs that proactively address the diverse needs of our community and promote whole-person wellness. We focus on issues such as affordable housing, food insecurity, anti-violence and health education.

St. Barnabas Hospital (SBH Health System) celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2016 and continues to serve the Bronx today as the oldest continuing healthcare facility in New York City.
Today, SBH Health System is playing a pivotal role in the transformation of health care in the Bronx.
Since the 1980’s, the hospital has developed a medical education program that trains residents in a variety of programs. Learn about Residency Programs at SBH.
Since the 1990’s, the hospital has received state designation as a Level 2 Trauma Center, an AIDS Center and Stroke Center, and opened a federally-designated Community Center of Excellence in Women’s Health. Explore SBH Clinical Services.
SBH has taken a leadership role in the state’s DSRIP program as the lead partner in Bronx Partners for Healthy Communities. This includes more than 200 Bronx community-based organizations that are working together to improve health care delivery and outcomes for Bronx residents.
