Guests Learn How to Treat Back and Neck Pain at Fifth Dinner with a Doctor

Pain Management was the subject of St. Barnabas Hospital’s fifth Dinner with a Doctor program, which took place in English on September 21 and in Spanish on September 22. Dr. Billy Ford, chief of anesthesiology; registered board-certified anesthesiologist Dr. David Marshak; and certified registered nurse anesthetist Ava Booker presented to a full house in the St. Barnabas Braker Building Boardroom. While hearing from the professionals, attendees enjoyed a free buffet-style dinner.
The presenters used a model of the spine to illustrate how the back and neck work and the various ways they can become injured, most commonly via moving or lifting improperly. They also discussed treatment options for pain management—everything from injections to chiropractics to acupuncture—but stressed that before any treatment can begin, a doctor needs to identify the source of one’s pain.
Guests at both the English and Spanish presentations enjoyed asking questions and obtaining helpful advice from the medical professionals present. As one attendee remarked, “This is absolutely fabulous and I’m thrilled to be here.”
