Firefighter Meets Donors Who Helped Save His Life

NY Blood Center Luncheon

More than 450 people gathered in Tarrytown, New York on Thursday, October 21 to express gratitude to blood drive organizers. This year’s guest of honor was firefighter Jeffrey Cool, who survived the horrific fire of January 23, 2005 (commonly known as “Black Sunday”) thanks to St. Barnabas Hospital’s health professionals and several blood donors.

Mr. Cool and Dr. Ernest Patti, Director of Medical Media Relations at St. Barnabas, gave keynote addresses about Mr. Cool’s harrowing ordeal and his miraculous recovery from extensive injuries. During the proceedings, Mr. Cool was introduced to nine of his blood donors. The ceremony underscored the fact that blood donors do indeed save lives.
