Position Summary
The Compliance Officer will initially report to the General Counsel and, as he/she develops, ultimately to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Trustees of the Hospital and its affiliates. The Compliance Officer is responsible for the overall operation of the Compliance Program, including the following:
 Providing regular updates on compliance activities and issues.
 Ensuring that the Compliance Program meets the minimum requirements of New York State law for an effective compliance program.
 Managing the compliance risk assessment process and preparing and executing an annual risk-based compliance work plan.
 Providing guidance to and collaborating with departments regarding the development of procedures and processes to address compliance issues and implement compliance monitoring, reporting, specialized training, and assurance plans. Advising management to maximize compliance with statutory, regulatory, and policy requirements.
 Managing compliance education and training programs.
 Maintaining and publicizing mechanisms that allow employees to obtain information regarding compliance issues and/or to report instances of suspected noncompliance in a manner that assures no retaliation and intimidation.
 Coordinating/conducting investigations of non-compliance. Communicating instances of non-compliance for corrective action. Determining that appropriate corrective, restorative, and/or disciplinary action has been taken in the event of noncompliance.
 Monitoring developments and changes in statutes and court rulings, rules, and regulations that impact compliance areas, in conjunction. Obtaining up-to-date information on changes in laws, rules, and regulations.
 Developing and updating reference publications such as the Compliance Work Plan, Code of Conduct and Compliance Manual.
 Supervising the process of disclosure of conflicts of interest.
Education and/or Experience:
 Bachelor’s degree required. An advanced degree is preferred. Areas of education may include finance, accounting, and law.
 A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a health care compliance function required.
 Functionally proficient in areas of regulatory law including New York State and Federal fraud and abuse laws.
