OUTPATIENT CODER(DRG) TECHNICIAN

Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Completion of an advanced ICD-9-CM education program AA/BS/BA in Health Information Management or other healthcare field preferred. Consideration extended to those with greater experience who lack the specified formal education who demonstrate a level of knowledge and proficiency comparable to that of an individual who has obtained the above pre-requisite education.
License(s) or Certification Required: Certified Coding Specialist certification preferred.
A minimum of two(2) years of recent, full-time coding experience in an acute care hospital setting(preferably a Level I Trauma Center). Experience dealing with and communicating effectively with medical staff and other healthcare providers.
Must have knowledge, understanding and experience of Federal encoder-grouper logic conventions, with additional knowledge of New York State grouper logic preferred.
