Stroke Center

St. Barnabas Hospital is the first hospital in the Bronx to be certified as a stroke center by the New York State Department of Health. Patients with acute stroke receive rapid and high quality care and treatment. 

Specialized Stroke Services

• Intravenous thrombolysis (tPA) for acute stroke
• Affiliation with the New York Weill Cornell Medical center for intra-arterial tPA or interventional radiologic clot extraction
• CT scan within 20 minutes of arrival for acute stroke
• MRI with Diffusion Weighted Images
• Dedicated stroke team and stroke unit
• Neurosurgery
• Physical and occupational therapy
• Speech/language and swallow therapy
