Nephrology (Kidney Disease)
The Nephrology Service at St. Barnabas provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plans for patients with kidney disease. Among the common causes of kidney disease are diabetes and hypertension, both of which have a high incidence in the Bronx. Because kidney disease is often asymptomatic, it is important for patients with family histories of diabetes and high blood pressure to see their physicians on a regular basis.
The St. Barnabas Nephrology Service emphasizes a team approach and is committed to providing patients with the highest quality of care by creating individual treatments plans with physicians, nurses and dieticians that include ongoing education, nutritional guidance, and lifestyle interventions to help slow the progression of kidney disease.
For patients with advanced kidney disease in need of dialysis, St. Barnabas has a modern state- of-the-art outpatient Dialysis Center located just a few steps from the hospital. The 40-station facility uses state of the art technology for the dialysis treatments. Every patient station is equipped with a comfortable chair and flat-screen TV.
